I also explain why this is particularly important in the context of people’s overall wellness and the significance of this type of information in an everyday-life information-seeking context. In this presentation I describe the concept of hedonistic information using real examples and illustrate the importance of this kind of information in human information behaviour. In particular we still know little about what people experience emotionally and mentally during information seeking in recreational contexts and what motivates them for further information seeking and sharing. As a result our existing knowledge about pleasurable information behaviour is still limited. However, library and information science (LIS) scholars have focused mainly on utilitarian and practical information and very little on joyful information.
Hedonistic information behaviour covers a wide range of information activities that people experience in their leisure time including searching, seeking, browsing, collecting, sharing and using information for hedonistic purposes. Hedonistic information exists in various entertaining and recreational contexts, such as musical, fashion, sporty, artistic, and hobby-related events and activities.
